Holiday fun at Nana and Grandpa’s house

April 16th, 2006

Before going out to Long Island for dinner at my grandparents’ house, Daddy took me for a stroll in the park while Mommy took a nap.  That calmed my fussies until I suddenly got hungry.  I told Daddy all the way home from the Park just how hungry I was, and he had to jog home so Mommy could feed me.  Then we went on the train to have a holiday celebration with Nana, Grandpa and Aunt Karin.  At the end of the evening, they played some weird game called Eier Kippen where grownups act like kids and smash boiled eggs against each other to see who wins (the one who has the last egg standing – that is, with no cracked shell).  Have to admit, it looked fun, so I can’t wait to play it when I am older.  Of course, there were pictures of the whole trip.

I like Mommy’s pillow; airing out with Daddy

April 14th, 2006

Mommy took some pictures of me still napping in the bed after she got up from a nap with me.  Later in the evening, we aired out my rashy butt for the third night in a row.  That means I had to relax on my tummy with no diaper on and let things hang out in the breeze.  Daddy volunteered once again to let me sleep on his belly with a big cloth diaper under me.  This has been working great, so my butt is much better now — whew!  Of course, Mommy thought it was cute to see us sleeping with a blanket over me and my buns.

Took a nap in my crib

April 13th, 2006

Mommy put me in my crib for a nap.  I don’t usually sleep there, but I was in the mood for a change, so I stayed in there for a while.  Mommy took some pictures while she was on the phone talking to Nanny Liz.  In the pictures, you can see my crib mobile.  Mommy didn’t know how to attach it, so it was in the crib with me.

I weigh 8 pounds 2 ounces

April 12th, 2006

No pictures today, but some good news. We went to see another pediatrician today to find out if she is good for me and also flexible on vaccines.  She seems like a caring and smart doctor.  Plus, she is nearby.  So we might switch.

The doctor told us we should try Desitin Original on my rashy ashy, because it has 40% zinc oxide, as well as use lotrimin and airing out.  Also, I now weigh 8 lbs 2 oz.  After a couple more pounds, I get to use the bigger diapers.

Resting on a red squishy pillow

April 11th, 2006

While Daddy got ready to go to work this morning, I was resting the red squishy pillow. After resting for a few minutes…big surprise, I got some gas and started making faces. So Daddy decided he wanted to do a photo shoot. I took that opportunity to do my tai chi wriggling and make lots of faces, including my famous “gas smile.”  Luckily I was able to drift off enough to close my eyes, and I did some poses while Mommy took more pictures.

Aunt Kerren came to visit us

April 8th, 2006

I like it when Aunt Kerren comes to visit. She reminds me of Mommy, but she never feeds me like Mommy does. Of course, we took lots of pictures. We even had a bath for me, and it feels good in a way, except for the parts of me that stick out of the water and get chilly.

Tried my first bottle of pumped milk AND tasted formula

April 7th, 2006

Today was a big day.

Mommy had a long set of three sessions in the evening and had pumped some milk for me so Daddy and Nana could give it to me if I got hungry.  About two hours after Mommy left for the office, I got really hungry.  I sucked down the milk Mommy made for me and then woudn’t stop crying.  So after a few minutes of trying to convince me that bouncing across the apartment was more fun than milk, Daddy finally gave up and tried the emergency formula we had stashed away.  I liked the formula, but I like the fresh stuff better.  I think the formula made my gas worse that night.

After the formula, I did finally calm down and pass out. Pictures

I slept through the night (almost)

April 6th, 2006

Since I didn’t let Mommy and Daddy sleep long the night before last, last night I slept snugging with Mommy for 4 hours, and then, after my feeding and changing, I went back to sleep again for 3 hours. In the late morning, Daddy had to make a phone call, so I rested on his arm (pictures).

Mommy took some pictures of me in my car seat carrier. She took me over to Brown Harris Stevens and visitied with some nice people there; they said I look like a doll. Then we went out to lunch with her friend Abigail.

Nana came by at 5:30 p.m. to stay with me while Mommy went to work for two hours. Nana changed me a few times, and then Mommy and Daddy came home together. After my dinner, I got very sleepy. I was so sleepy that I didn’t complain when Daddy changed my diaper. My rash did not get worse, and looks a bit better today. Whew.

Nana walked me though Central Park

April 5th, 2006

I was tired and grumpy much of the day; yeasty diaper rashes are no fun.  To help me get my mind off of it, Daddy took me out in my car seat carrier. He had planned to take me to his office, but on the way there, he bumped into Nana.  Nana took me for a nice, long walk through Central Park.  She told Daddy that while I was asleep, lots of people said I am cute, and that made Nana smile.  No pictures for today; too busy zooming around in my carrier.

Another doctor visit, Walked through the park, Napped in the crib

April 4th, 2006

Mommy wanted to see another pediatrician for a second opinion.  The doctor was very nice and thorough.  She agreed that we are doing things to help the yeast go away.  Once I get rid of this thrush, I’m staying healthy.  Instead of taking the subway home, Mommmy and Daddy walked me home through Central Park.  I loved it because the paths are nice and bumpy, and that helps me to sleep with my binky in my mouth.  When I’m rolling down the path, the binky is rolling around in my mouth, round and round.

When we got home, Mommy started folding my clothes and put me down in the crib.  I liked it so much that I didn’t complain.  Then I dozed off.  My first nap in my own bed!  Mommy and Daddy were proud.

Double doctor day

April 3rd, 2006

This weekend, Mommy freaked out because my yeast infection isn’t going away and it gave me a really bad case of diaper rash.  I think it really upset Mommy when the yeasty diaper rash was so sore I screamed when my diaper was changed and there was even a bit of blood.  Mommy called two doctors – our pediatrician and a doctor that specializes in breastfeeding problems. So we went to the pediatrician, and later in the evening, the breast doctor actually made a housecall.  Now we have a plan to use stronger medicine to get both of us well.

First time on the Long Island Rail Road

April 2nd, 2006

Sundays are great — nice and lazy.  Today is different.  I get a bath (which makes sense, since I keep spitting up), but then the real excitement begins.  We head out with the car seat stroller (I love that stroller!), and we can’t find a cab.  We are in a rush, but I don’t know why until later.  We get to a train just about to leave the station and the conductor holds the train for Mommy.  Then we ride on the train for an hour.  I like being on the train; the vibration makes me sleepy.  When we get off the train, Grandpa picks us up and we go to Grandpa and Nana’s house.  Daddy used the video recorder to make a movie, but it hasn’t been digitized yet.

I’m no fool on April Fool’s Day; Day of rest

April 1st, 2006

After resting in my swing, I had some lunch. Then after lunch, we went out to run some errands with me in the stroller. I really love the stroller — it is so relaxing. I stayed asleep most of the trip. When I got back, I was still tired and Mommy was too, so we took a nap together on the couch after my changing and dinner. Daddy thought it was cute, so he took pictures.

Post-nap photo session

March 31st, 2006

After a nap together on the bed, Mommy thought I looked so calm and relaxed that she got up to take some pictures.  But then I decided to create some excitement by waving my arms around and making funny faces.  Here are the shots from this photo session.  They all make me smile, but #1156 really cracks me up.

Today is Mommy’s 40th Birthday

March 29th, 2006

Amazing as it is, Mommy’s birthday is a year and a day after Daddy’s. And I was born in March, too. That makes March birthday month around here. After a good breakfast (Mommy had a whole wheat raisin scone, and you know what I had), we decided that in honor of Mommy’s birthday, we would take a nap. That is the best present I can give her for sure! Of course, there are pictures, because Daddy was blogging at the time.  Later in the evening, we went to work, and Mommy fed me before seeing a client. I was quite relaxed.

Today was Daddy’s Birthday

March 28th, 2006

Today was Daddy’s birthday.  He is 41, which is more than 492 times as old as I am.  Daddy sure is old.  Because I woke him up early on his birthday, he got tired and we both fell asleep on the couch while he was writing his ClickZ column for the week.  Of course, there are pictures.  Mommy and I also went shopping for birthday cards.  Because I look like a frog when I bend my legs, Mommy and I got a frog card for Daddy from me to wish him “Hoppy Birthday.”  Here is the front, and here is the inside. Mommy helped me write the card.

When I pig out, I get tired

March 27th, 2006

Sometimes pigging out is a lot of fun. but my tiny belly doesn’t hold very much so if I overeat a bit, I get tired and barely move from my perch on the fluffy blue Boppy.  In the middle of napping on Mommy’s shoulder, I sometimes wake up and make a face.  See the pictures.

Got a bath today, and had a good stretch afterwards

March 26th, 2006

I have been spitting up a bit and Mommy decided that it was a good day for a bath.  After the bath, I was resting on my favorite pillow and decided to stretch out. We also hung around all day with the cats and watched some TV.

Mommy and I fell asleep watching figure skating

March 24th, 2006

Mommy likes to watch figure skating (a lot!), and tonight we both fell asleep snugging while the World Championships were on the TiVo.  Pictures.

My belly button, finally revealed

March 23rd, 2006

When I said last week that My umbilical cord stump fell off this morning, I was not counting that last little bit which fell off today.  Mommy immediately got excited, and she took pictures of my navel.  She thinks my belly button is really cute.  What do you think?  More pictures of my navel.  Mommy also thinks I look like a supermodel in this photo.  These photos are of what Mommy & Daddy call my “Oooo face,” which I do when I have gas. Here are pictures of me after Mommy & I took our first real afternoon nap, after Mommy woke up.  I slept well today!

I stayed with Daddy while Mommy saw clients, first time trying a binky

March 22nd, 2006

Mommy is a psychologist and sees clients in the evening.  She shares an office with Daddy, and I get to spend time with Daddy when Mommy works.  We went to the office with me in a car seat & carrier.  I liked it, especially because I also got to try a binky.  The car seat is almost as snuggy as the sling that Daddy likes to use.  Here is a picture of me when I came home from our outing tonight.

Mommy and I were sleeping with the cats this morning.

Nana Lee visited today, helped burp me

March 22nd, 2006

Today my Nana visited me.  She helped keep me company while my Mommy did stuff around the house and went to work.  It was lots of fun to have more hugging and burping.  Nana calls burps in German “Beuerschen.”

Lots of funny faces today

March 19th, 2006

Sunday we hung around and I relaxed on the pillow. I start making faces when I get gassy, and I look both funny and cute.  Daddy and Mommy took lots of pictures.

Making faces, running errands, nursing without chomping

March 18th, 2006

This morning, I was on Daddy’s lap and he took some funny pictures of me. Then we went out to do some errands. I liked the taxi ride — it had the kind of motion that makes me calm. Then we went to Starbuck’s because Mommy wanted some herbal tea. It was chilly outside, but Daddy had me in the sling with my sweater on, so I was toasty warm. Mommy also took some pictures when I got home. I still have the sling half on in the pictures.

We got a nursing stool in the mail so Mommy can be more comfortable when she feeds me. The lactation lady came over again today to help Mommy learn how to hold me so I don’t chomp her nipples 😮

I’m gassy as usual today; sleeping next to Mommy

March 16th, 2006

My belly is only 16 days old so it has problems with gas. I have to eat a lot (about 8 times a day), and I seem to get gas after every time I eat. Walking around with Mommy or especially Daddy helps me blow out the gas. This morning, Daddy took a picture of me sleeping next to Mommy.

Today was supposed to be my birthday

March 15th, 2006

I was originally supposed to show up in the world today, but chose instead to arrive on March 1st. I’m so glad I gave myself a two-week head start. Read through my adventures of the last two weeks, and you can see why I wanted to be with my Mommy and Daddy on the outside where I can see them and they can see me.

Mommy went a little camera crazy because I was making faces today. I think I had gas. Pictures

Got a bath tonight. Nice and clean 🙂 I didn’t mind it so much because I was distracted by my hiccups.

I’m growing…2 inches in 2 weeks

March 13th, 2006

Today we went to see my doctor. Dr. Hops weighed and measured me (including my head!), and Mommy asked lots of questions. You can see my Daddy bringing me to the doctor in a sling. I like slings. Pictures.

I now weigh 6 lbs 10 oz, and am 21.5 inches long. I am long and lean. I think I have my Daddy’s legs.

Another photo shoot

March 12th, 2006

Mommy took lots of pictures of me and my faces. She thinks I’m really cute and loves me a lot. She also wants everyone to see me who can’t be here to visit me. Pictures…

My umbilical cord stump fell off this morning

March 11th, 2006

During this morning’s diaper change, Mommy’s hand brushed against by my umbilical cord stump as I was wriggling.  Most of it fell off!  I hope I get a cute belly button.  Mommy & Daddy think it’s looking good.

We went to the store, I slept in a sling

March 10th, 2006

Today, we went on the subway to the store and walked around.  It was a beautiful, warm day.  Daddy carried me in a ring sling.  Slings are very comfy – I slept for 3 hours.  Then mommy carried me in the sling, too.  Mommy took lots of pictures of me while holding me in the glider chair.Â
